Uluguru and Chome Carbon Stocks

Name of Client : UNDP and MNRT (Forestry and Beekeeping Division )

Consultants: Prof PKT Munishi and  Mr. Deo D. Shirima

Detailed Narrative Description of Project:

The major objective of the project was to provide adequate information on the values of the Uluguru and Chome Nature Reserves in relation to carbon storage, carbon sink, factors influencing the carbon stock, and set the permanent modalities for measuring and assessing carbon stock change within the reserves, threats and resource demand, allowing the carbon stores in the forests to increase to their natural maximum levels.

Detailed Description of Actual Services Provided by your Staff:
Establish and Map Permanent Carbon Monitoring Plots along an altitudinal gradient to establish variations in carbon storage with altitude
Measure the Carbon Plots to Determine Carbon Stocks
Establish modalities for monitoring carbon fluxes over time to determine the carbon sequestration potential of the forests
Determine the factors driving forest degradation in the two nature reserves
